Software Engineer - Contract

We believe that the right connection can change your life. At Mentorloop, our mission is to make mentoring better, more measurable, and more accessible for all. As our team grows, we’re seeking someone passionate about building great software with an emphasis on quality, including quality code, product, and user experiences.

We are increasing our product velocity while in a high-growth stage, and as such we’re looking for a freelance full-stack JavaScript engineer to join our team for an initial short-term contract (3-6 months). Reporting to the CTO, you will be augmenting the engineering team to help ship new features while also collaborating closely with our product, customer success, sales, and marketing teams to build and improve our applications, delivering the best experience for our users.

Daily rate: A$600-800 per day commensurate with experience.

This is a Melbourne-based role. Unfortunately, we will only be able to accept candidates already residing in Australia.

You have:

  • Proven experience as a freelance engineer or a similar engineering role.
  • Strong coding and testing skills and experience with React, Node, and MongoDB.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and working in highly collaborative teams.
  • A strong commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.

We are:

Graduating from start-up to scale-up. Our product has always been built with discipline and love, and it is ready to be put through its paces as we expand into new markets, larger customers, and onboard thousands of users; deploy data science to predict mentoring success; and ultimately build a platform that creates the conditions for wonderful human connections to form (without a whole lot of feature bloat getting in the way!).

A full-stack JavaScript platform, implementing Node.js and MongoDB on the backend and a modern React ecosystem on the frontend, all deployed on AWS.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and build our product. You are expected to write clear, performant, tested code. You will participate in team Agile rituals and other ad hoc planning meetings as needed.
  • Maintain the quality and security of all code bases. While bugs are inevitable, you are expected to proactively resolve any high priority issues you may introduce or fall under your remit.
  • Participate in peer review and pair programming. You will work closely with the rest of the engineering team to share knowledge and learn from each other.
  • Collaborate with others in the business. You will assist our customer success team by triaging bugs and solving production issues.
  • Have fun! At Mentorloop, we are a dynamic, fun-loving team.

A bit more about us:

At Mentorloop we are making quality mentoring more accessible. We are driven to deliver the benefits of mentoring to anyone who seeks them. We realised early that if we wanted to properly execute on this idea, we couldn’t just rely on having a good purpose – we needed to find a way to build a profitable, sustainable business too. That’s why we’re proud to be a certified B Corporation, building a business that’s a force for good in the world.

We believe the right connection can change your life. We believe that as a team we’re Greater Than the Sum of Our Parts. In Done and Fun – getting things done and celebrating our wins. We believe in taking opportunities, not being afraid to change, and being Masters of Our Own Destiny. We believe in letting our customers and our community help us build the best possible product. And we believe that when we take a position and back ourselves, amazing things happen.
