Meet Olivia Le Blanc – a mentee in the Women Offshore Mentorship program. Olivia shares how her relationship with her mentor opened her up to different career opportunities she hasn’t thought about before. She also shares some advice for those who are new to mentoring.
What do you think the ‘secret’ is to a good mentoring relationship?!
I think the most important thing is communication and feeling comfortable with your mentor/mentee. This helped build a great mentoring relationship for me.
What is one way that mentoring has changed your professional or personal life – or for your mentoring match?
I learned more about the industry and different perspectives. Being a pilot never really was on my radar but after meeting my mentor and going to work with her it opened up a new path I might want to try one day.
What tips or advice would you like to share with those new to mentoring?
Get to know your mentor/mentee and communicate regularly. Setting goals and keeping communication open is extremely helpful.
The Women Offshore Mentorship Program connects women around the world who have experience or currently work on the water in the maritime or offshore oil and gas industries. The Women Offshore Foundation is an online organization and resource center established in 2017 to support a diverse workforce on the water. Their mission is to propel women into meaningful careers through access to a worldwide community and professional development resources, while raising awareness amongst industry leaders and decision-makers about issues affecting women on the water.
